Love her or hate her, there is no denying that Victoria Beckham has the best sidewalk style bar none. Kate Moss would be a distant runner up, but I can’t think of any others who can compete with Victoria. When she moved to LA she was adamant that we would not see her in a Juicy Couture tracksuit and Ugg boots, and she stuck to her word. Her style is very tailored, sleek, classic and most importantly timeless. OK some would say she gets over-dressed for a 10 hour flight, or is ridiculous for wearing 6″ heels to go shopping at The Grove with 3 young sons, but this has always been the VB way, and I personally love her for it. Runway To ‘Star Academy’ - Rihanna In Balmain

On Friday Rihanna performed her hit single Umbrella on the Season Finale of the French talent competition Star Academy with contestant Alice. The singer was wearing a Balmain Fall 2008 zebra print blazer with crystal embellishments on the shoulders and lapels. She also wore a silver metallic top from the same collection with leather pants and Alexander McQueen boots. This was a great look for Rihanna. Last year Victoria Beckham’s pob, was the hairstyle of the year. This year retro waves was the look that was most used on the red carpet. Retro waves are big loose curls that give the star an Old Hollywood look. The look is very glamourous, sophisticated and sassy. We were very used to seeing this look on Dita von Teese, and her mini me Evan Rachel Wood, but we also saw this look on stars like Amy Adams and Reese Witherspoon. The rise of British model Jourdan Dunn is nothing short of amazing. As iD magazine said “You owe it to yourself. Set the world on fire”, and she did. She model was on the cover of the now historic Italian Vogue, British Vogue, Pop and i:D - she was the first Black model to walk in a Prada show for 10 years - previously it was Naomi Campbell who last walked in that show. . Jordan also was the face of many campaigns. Most notably Topshop, Benetton, and Gap. It was reported that the model walked an amazing 92 shows at Spring 2009 Fashion Week. Best Style Make-Over Of 2008 - Anne Hathaway

Judging from the pictures above, I will assume that Rachel Zoe got her boney hands onto Anne Hathaway from February 2008, when she dressed her for the 2008 Oscars, as this for me is when the transformation began. OK her style was not that bad prior to this point, but is was just not quite polished and lacked direction. Her Oscars 2007 dress, with the big black bow was a clear indication that she needed help. The pressure to live up to her stylish character Andy from The Devil Wears Prada, must have been huge, but the actress took it in her stride, stayed a smart, and grounded young lady. Her most daring dress this year was the black Sophia Kokosalaki dress she wore to the MTV Movie Awards, which no one could have predicted. But your favourite dress of the year was her Atelier Versace gown, which she wore to the Rachel Getting Married premiere at the 65th Venice Film Festival. Rihanna was last years winner. I think the majority of us were surprised by the improvement of Beyonce Knowles this year style-wise. This I would like to attribute this to her getting married, and feeling more in control of her style. Not only did she improve on the red carpet, but in her stage costumes and her day to day style. She does take two steps forward with the occasional one step back, but will she continue to improve, or will she return to the bling? Jennifer Rade is a genius stylist for turning Kim Kardashian from a reject on Flavor of Love, to a charming sophisticated woman. Rihanna went from sassy R&B singer, to edgy Rock Chick in a blink of an eye. She started off the year wearing cute Betsey Johnson dresses with Jimmy Choo shoes, but the end of 2008 she was scaring the bejesus out of us, wearing studded and spikey ensembles from Phillipe and David Blond. We -well I- was introduced to many new designers via Rihanna such as Peter Pilotto, Mara Hoffman, and the Blonds. Forget Viagra: scientists are working on an electronic “sex chip” that will be able to stimulate pleasure centres in the brain.
The prospect of the chip, which could be a decade or more away, is emerging from progress in deep brain stimulation, in which tiny shocks from implanted electrodes are given to the brain. It has already been used to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
In recent months scientists have been focusing on an area of the brain just behind the eyes known as the orbitofrontal cortex. This is associated with feelings of pleasure derived from eating and sex.
A research survey conducted by Morten Kringelbach, senior fellow at Oxford University’s department of psychiatry, and reported in the Nature Reviews Neuroscience journal, found that the orbitofrontal cortex could be a “new stimulation target” to help people suffering from anhedonia, an inability to experience pleasure from such activities. Stimulating this area can produce pleasure as intense as “devouring a delicious pastry”, he said.
His colleague Tipu Aziz, a professor of neurosurgery at the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford, predicted a significant breakthrough in the science behind a “sex chip” within 10 years. “There is evidence that this chip will work,” Aziz said last week. “A few years ago a scientist implanted such a device into the brain of a woman with a low sex drive and turned her into a very sexually active woman. She didn’t like the sudden change, so the wiring in her head was removed.”
The wiring remains a hurdle: Aziz says current technology, which requires surgery to connect a wire from a heart pacemaker into the brain, causes bleeding in some patients and is “intrusive and crude”.
By 2015, he predicts, micro-computers in the brain with a range of applications could be self-powered and controlled by hand-held transmitters. “When the technology is improved, we can use deep brain stimulation in many new areas. It will be more subtle, with more control over the power so you may be able to turn the chip on and off when needed.
An electronic machine that generates sexual sensations is already under development by a North Carolina doctor, Stuart Meloy, who is modifying a spinal cord stimulator to produce pleasure in women. He calls it the Orgasmatron, a name taken from an orgasm-producing device in the 1973 Woody Allen film Sleeper. A similar device, the Excessive Machine, featured in Jane Fonda’s 1968 film, ‘Barbarella’.
